Our Experts Guide to
The Sunwave Luxury Beach Villa Lanzarote is located in Famara Bungalows, a secluded residential area of villas and luxury apartments just outside of the surfer town Famara. The bungalows are a quiet neighbourhood, situated right on the beach and away from the busy center of town.
Famara lies imbedded in a unique landscape, between beach and the cliffs of „El Risco“ with a direct view of the neighbour island La Graciosa and panoramic views in all directions. Our villa has a direct view of the ocean, with the semi private beach less than 80 meters away from the front door.
With more than 8km in length, the sandy beach of Famara is the longest one on Lanzarote. Not only is it a great place to swim and bathe in the sun, but the many diverse sand banks also make it a paradise for surfers. There are waves for all levels breaking here all year around, right in front of the door, and as the Luxury Beach Villa is situated aside of the main village, there are still empty lineups to be found even during the high season.
In the last few years Famara has become the place to be for numerous surfers from all over the globe, who have come to check out the best beach and reef breaks of the island known as the “European Hawaii”. The 6-star ASP event La Santa Pro, leg of the world surfing championships, is held every year in October at the beautiful beach of San Juan, a few hundred meters away from the village. From the Villa and the terrace, you have an open view of the waves, so you can simply grab a board and run down to the water when the swell is pumping. Of course you can also discover the local breaks under the professional supervision and guidance of our surf instructors.
The surrounding villas and the Sunwave Luxury Beach Villa were built in the 1970s in the Canarian style. Since the area (the „Archipiélago Chinijo“) was declared a nature sanctuary in 1986, no further construction is allowed there. Therefore, the settlement has kept it’s authentic original character and peaceful surroundings.
At present Famara is a multi-cultural mix of locals and surfers from all nationalities living together in a laid back atmosphere. You can take an afternoon stroll into the town of Famara from our Luxury Beach Villa and enjoy a great quay side lunch over looking the quaint habour. Watch the fisherman getting their boats out of the water and bringing in their fresh catches of the day.
Restaurants in Caleta De Famara offer varied cuisines from breakfast to lunch to fine dining to tapas bars and more. And because we know that with this wide selection it’s hard to decide where to go we put together this guide to our favourite places, or feel free to explore for yourself!
