Well, where to begin……..

As I sit here and look back on the last 11 months, it is safe to say that it has been the best time of my life. To anyone looking into doing something similar  I would highly recommend it! Link to apply below :)

ABOUT ME

For those of you who have not met me; Hi! I’m Kenny, I’m 28 years old, born and bred from a small beach town in New Zealand, and the current Social Media and Marketing intern for Sunwave Surfcamp….however unfortunately Friday 11th August marks my last day :(

I arrived at Sunwave Surfcamp in September 2016, after escaping the cold and grey offices of the corporate world in London. Ever since graduating uni I was working as a Marketing Manager is various large corporations, stuck behind a corporate desk, but always dreaming of the ocean.

So one day I decided it was time to make a bit of a change and try life at a surfcamp…...and that is how I found myself in my perfect little slice of paradise, Sunwave Surfcamp Fuerteventura.

THE JOB

The job of Social Media and Marketing Intern here at Sunwave Surfcamp was a dream job for me, a mixture of all my passions and a chance to be paid for it! Win Win!

The job is broken down into the below categories:

Photography: I spent 4 days a week on the beach taking photos of the guests and exploring the island with the surf camps taking photos of all levels of surfers, and occasionally jumping in the water myself to go pro the students and to catch a wave or 2 myself.

Editing/Blog/Social Media: During the evenings at work I would edit all the photos from that day, upload them all to the website, write all the blog posts and also do all the social media and email marketing campaigns for the business.

Website Building: I also built, designed and developed the new Lanzarote Luxury Beach Villa website in the quieter months, so it was a very fun and busy position!

ISLAND LIFE

Fuerteventura has been amazing, it's literally summer all year round (I have the best tan right now) and I was blown away by the incredible waves on the island.

I spent the majority of my free time surfing and would say I now have a serious love affair with the sport. My surfing has progressed so much and I learned so many new tricks just by being apart of the surf courses and lessons - Thanks guys!

The team at Sunwave are incredible and it really feels like we are all just one big family! From Jolly (the big boss) to  Bas, Gregor, David, Marcello and of course the lovely Tom, thank you to each and everyone of you for the best year I could have ever imagined.

Also thank you to all the wonderful guests! There have been so many of you that I have had a personal relationship with (you know who you are) - So if anyone is ever travelling New Zealand or are in my corner of the world please shout out and I will happily be your tour guide or offer you a place to stay :)
